The School of Spiritual Science VIII

During the anthroposophical events in Prague described above, the School of Spiritual Science was able to develop its activities outside the Goetheanum for the first time. In two events of the first class of the General Anthroposophical Section, I had the opportunity to present the first steps of the supersensible quest for knowledge to the souls of those personalities who had decided to become members of this class. These events of an esoteric nature took place on April 3 and 5. What had been experienced in the first such events at the Goetheanum was thus also brought before the members of the school in Czechoslovakia.

The number of individuals who were granted membership on the basis of their declaration in this regard was over a hundred. This showed that the Society in Czechoslovakia has a core of loyal members who, over many years, have made anthroposophy the guiding force of their spiritual life. It was deeply satisfying for me to be able to look at souls whom I had long encountered at the Prague events. In the eyes of many, I could see a deep connection with the anthroposophical content of life. I became aware of many open hearts. These are necessary for the cultivation of esoteric life. For the intellect is powerless if it does not receive strength from the understanding heart. This understanding of the heart is truly no less “logical” than that of the head. It is only not regarded as such in ordinary life because in this life it does not need to unfold the inner power of a supersensible “logic.” Here, the mind takes the place of logic, and the heart may go its own way, untouched by logic, because it can be corrected by the mind. The fear of the logic of the heart, which often arises, has its origin in the belief that when it enters, the heart loses the warmth that is otherwise characteristic of it. However, one only has this fear as long as one has not understood what warmth the soul experiences when it comprehends the ideas of a spiritual world. Those who do not feel this warmth do not live in the ideas of the spirit; they only think the ideas that have first been killed in their soul, which they hear in the words into which someone who has once gazed into the spiritual world has poured his spiritually real experiences.
