Managing Luciferic and Ahrimanic Thoughts in Meditation
GA 266III — 5 June 1913, Helsinki
Esoteric Lesson
One of the complaints of esotericists is that they are bombarded by thoughts during meditation, but this is natural. These are the Luciferic and Ahrimanic beings that we did not notice before, but which become noticeable precisely through meditation. It does not matter that we cannot see Ahriman and Lucifer. To say that the thoughts that assail us are not there would be just as foolish as saying that someone we sense in a dark room is not there because we cannot see them.
One must not fight against such thoughts. That would be like defending ourselves against a swarm of bees; it is precisely by continuing our meditation calmly and quietly that they will leave us of their own accord. In many things we must learn to think differently. Our meditation does not really depend on time, but on the intensity and complete interest in our meditation material.
Much useless thinking is caused by the events at Adyar, and many of our Theosophical friends have been compelled, because they had to devote their time to useless thoughts, instead of being able to devote themselves to spiritual progress. There are forces at work that want to harm us, but since they do not have many opportunities to attack pure occultism, which wants to remain pure and strong in the truth, they are now trying to hinder and harm us by making us use our energies on all this useless writing, which takes up time that we could otherwise use better.
