Gospel Texts
The beginning of the Gospel of John
Chap. 1. 1-14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God.
This was in the beginning with God.
All things came into being through Him; and apart from
Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
And the light shines in the darkness, but the
darkness did not comprehend it.
There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.
He came for a witness, to bear witness about the Light, so that through him everyone might believe. He was not the Light, but a witness about the Light.
The true Light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
It was in the world, and the world was made through it, but the world did not recognize it.
It came to the individual men; but the individual men did not receive it.
But those who received it, to them he revealed God's children.
Those who trusted in his name were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of human will, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we heard his teaching; the teaching of the only Son of the Father, full of devotion and truth.
The High Priestly Prayer
Gospel of John, Chapter 17. 1-8, 24, 26
Jesus placed himself in the spirit and said:
Fatherly foundation of the world:
let the works of your son be revealed,
so that through the works of your son
You too may become manifest. You have made him the creator
in all human bodies of flesh,
so that he may lead into the future
all who came to him through You. They will live in the future because
their soul's eye is prepared
to behold Thee as the truly united World-Ground
and the creative Christ Jesus
whom Thou didst send to them. Through me Thou didst become manifest again in earthly existence,
when the earth clouded over Thy Revelation.
Such was Thy will, which worked through me. So too, Fatherly Ground of the World, You were in them,
through You they came to me,
and they have taken into themselves
the knowledge of You. They recognized that
what I spoke to them
was spoken by You through me
to them. Fatherly ground of the world, I implore,
that they who have come to You through me,
may always live with You,
as I am with You,
and that they may see Your revelation,
which You lovingly let shine before me,
before the earth was yet. Through me the word was revealed,
which reveals You,
and I will carry this word into human souls,
so that the love with which You love me
may be preserved in them,
and so my eternal life
may also preserve their life eternally.
Gospel of John, Chapter 17. 1-9
When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour has come; reveal your Son, that your Son may reveal it to you, as you have given him power over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to those given to him. And this is eternal life, that they know You as the only true God, and Jesus Christ as the Messenger. I have revealed You on earth to bring to completion the work You have given me to do. And now, Father, reveal me with the revelation that was given to me through You before the world existed. I have revealed You to the people You have assigned to me from the world. They were Yours and You gave them to me, and they have remained filled with Your words.
Thus they have recognized how everything You have given me is from You. For the powers of thought that You have given me, I have brought to them. They have connected with them and seen through that I come from You and realized that You have given me to them.
For them as individual people, not for people in general, I ask of You, only for the people You have given me, because they are through You.
