The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1912–1918

GA 277a — 11 September 1915, Dornach

The Apollonian Course XXII

After giving a text example for the Tiaoait, Rudolf Steiner added various comments in this concluding hour—presumably in response to individual questions—including some on colors, which were included in the 10th hour on August 26, 1915, for reasons of context (see p. 331).

Examples of the Tiaoait

For solemn poems – odes in this form. Horace. Ovid. Goethe's “Urworte” (primordial words).

One begins. Eurythmy is performed between two positions. Then everyone participates, receiving the spiritual.

[The positions were added by Lory Maier-Smits in the galley proofs]

From the “Words of Moses,” translated by Hugo Bergmann Hear, O heavens, for I will speak, 1st position
And let the earth hear the words of my mouth! 2nd position
May my teaching drip like rain, 3rd position
May my word drip like dew! 4th position
Like rain showers on young greenery, 5th position
Like abundant drops on the field! 6th position
For I proclaim the name of Yahweh, 7th position
Give great honor to our God! 8th position
He is rock, his work is perfect, 9th position
All his ways are right, 10th position
A God of faithfulness without falsehood, 11th position
He is just and true. 12th position
His sons acted badly toward him—it was their fault—
The corrupt and perverse generation.
Do you want to repay Yahweh like this,
You foolish and unwise people?
Is he not your Father, who created you,
he who made you and formed you?
Remember the days of old,
consider the years of generations!
Ask your father, and he will tell you,
the elders among you will tell you.
When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance,
When he divided the children of men,
He set the boundaries there
According to the number of the children of Israel,
For Yahweh's portion is his people,
Jacob the land of his possession. From the Revelations of John 20:1-6; 7-9; 11-14 t And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
i And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.
And he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him above.
That he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years were finished;
And after that he must be loosed a little season.
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them;
o and the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands,
a these lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years!
a but the rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.
a This is the first resurrection.
i Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.
i Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with him a thousand years.
t
t And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison,
i and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle, whose number is like the sand of the sea.
i And they marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city.
a And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
a And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.
a And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before God, and books were opened.
o and another book was opened, which is the book of life.
a And the dead were judged according to what was written in the books, according to their deeds.
a And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them;
a and they were judged, each one according to his deeds.
ö And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.
i This is the second death.

Concluding words, review

One should use what is given, as befits the nature of poetry: the principle of slow or faster walking, of rhyme. But especially apply the principle of the soul.

In the courses, first let the arbitrary do its work, then suppress it and ascend to the higher.

The inner connection between soul and form can affect the stanza and the entire poem. In the broadest, most unpedantic sense. Everything you do in space, you can also do in time. - This way, you can do all the points one after the other. You can also express stanzas spiritually through color nuances. Always internalize.
