The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1912–1918

GA 277a — 3 January 1918, Dornach

Notes on an Eurythmy Lesson

Tatiana Kisseleff, from: “Eurythmy – Memories”

On January 3, Dr. Steiner gave me a sheet of paper on which he had written down the vowels in connection with the planets. I asked how it was to be understood that two vowels were given for each planet except Mars. Dr. Steiner said that I would have to study it in order to arrive at the right feeling. The planets move, they change their positions, which also causes the change in the sounds; he also spoke about the relationships between certain planets and signs of the zodiac. At the same time (January 4-13, 1918), Dr. Steiner gave lectures that were published under the title “Ancient Myths and Their Meaning: The Rejuvenating Forces in Human Nature.” In the fourth lecture, it seems to me that this problem of the connection between sounds and the planets, as well as the relationship between the planets and the signs of the zodiac, was solved.
