The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1912–1918

GA 277a — 13 February 1918, Nuremberg

Notes on an Eurythmy Lesson

Lory Maier-Smits, from: “The Beginnings of Eurythmy”

At the beginning of the last year of the war, 1918, Rudolf Steiner gave a series of lectures in Nuremberg, which I also attended. During those days, a very small eurythmy performance was organized within the closest circle of the branch, a very small one, because Mrs. Marie Steiner-von Sivers and I had to perform it all by ourselves. In addition, Mrs. Marie Steiner had a bad cold and was so hoarse after the rehearsal in the morning that she feared she would not be able to recite in the afternoon. Rudolf Steiner promised that if she couldn't, he would read for her, but in the end she was able to do it. She went through the whole program and her voice became freer and better. “You see, you just have to keep trying, then it will work,” Dr. Steiner said to her afterwards.
