148. Lecture Evening: Margarette Pix

On November 1, 1898, we got to know Margarete Pix as a true artist of lectures. Her whole manner is likeable. This became particularly clear to me when she recited the poem "Anna" by Julius Hart and some poems by M.E. delle Grazie, who is unfortunately so little known in northern Germany. I also enjoyed listening to Mrs. Pix's rendition of some of Theodor Fontane's works. I would generally describe the evening as a success, with the exception of the first number on the program. "Der Vicar" by Adalbert von Hanstein is one of those poems that live from the very worst rhetoric. Ms. Pix has a beautiful talent for performance. She will have the best success if she can avoid putting her performance art at the service of such "art products", which can make the listener furious through their unnaturalness.
