53. “Faust”

A tragedy by J.W. Goethe
Performance at the Goethe Theater, Berlin

I would like to say a few words about the performance that opened the newly rechristened Goethe Theater des Westens because it gave me one of the most beautiful theater experiences I have had in recent times: Teresina Geßner's Gretchen. Once again I had the impression of mature acting. We had spent a wonderful evening when we left the theater. Everything else was forgiven. One could. Because everything was so mediocre that you couldn't be happy, but you couldn't be angry either, because there is a level of indifferent mediocrity where all enthusiasm stops.
