132. Moriz Lazarus “Ethics of Judaism”

The "Ethics of Judaism" by the psychologist Moriz Lazarus must be called a book that has arisen from the needs of the present as well as from thorough, profound scholarship. The book is the diligent work of fifteen years. It is not an apologia for Jewish ethics, but aims to be a "purely objective presentation" of the moral teachings of Judaism. The author seeks to realize the principle: "If you build an altar, you must not swing a sword over it; if you have swung your sword, it is desecrated."
