Luke 7:11-17 Bible T 76; NZ 7016 (1909?)

And it came to pass, that on the morrow he went into a city called Nain: and there were many of his followers and much people of the city. And when he was nigh at the gate of the city, there went out a dead body, the son of a certain widow; and many of the people went with him. When the Lord saw her, he felt compassion for her and said to her, “Do not weep.”

He came up and touched the coffin, saying, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. And fear came upon them, and they felt the power of God, and said, “A great prophet has arisen among us, and God has shown himself to his people.” And the insight wisdom in this of him spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding region.

Luke 14:25-35 NZ 110 (1906-1909?)

[Homeless.— Bear. Follow. Build a tower. Estimate costs. King. 10,000 versus 20,000: Peace Salt:— throw away Whoever has ears — So whoever among you does not renounce what he has cannot be my disciple. Salt is good. But if the salt has lost its flavor, with what shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the soil nor for the manure pile, but is thrown out.

A large crowd gathered around him, and he said to them, “If anyone comes to me and does not despise his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.”

And whoever does not take up his share of the earth and bring it to me cannot be my follower.

But which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ but he cannot finish it, and what king would go to war against another king without first considering whether he can meet him with ten thousand against twenty thousand?

If he cannot, he sends a message while the other is still far away and asks for peace.
