First Scene, Final Scenes

GIANT: I love the stories
And find them witty,
But for my brain
They will probably remain
What they have been until now:
Good material
For passing the time
I have
Between work and pleasure.

1st WILL-O'-THE-WISP: That seems to me
To stray too far from the goal.
You forget that you
Could never live
If it weren't for those
Who make the art of thought
Their own.

L.: The gentleman is right.
O friend, you do not know
How sweet it is
To live life
When knowledge
Reveals to the soul
The essence of things.

L. returns:

I feel compelled to spend a little while longer
With the one
Whose gaze has seemed so clouded
For days now.
You seem to live
In misunderstanding.
And instead of joyful delight
And the joys of existence
Flowing to you from the new revelation,
It takes away all your security in life,
Worry flows into your heart
And sickness into your soul.
How often are we told,
Health alone is the fruit of the new teaching;
In you it experiences its opposite.
I see other fruits
Sprouting from it.
Desolate is the old existence
Of those who dwell at my side.
Only now do they recognize
How pleasure reigns in all life.
And in a hundred ways
They know how to enjoy
The hours of the day,
Since at the root of things
They no longer see
The emptiness they despise,
But instead bright joy
In divine reasons.
You are relieved of everyday life,
But you are not liberated.
Instead of allowing the impulses of the heart
To arise anew
From the bath of spiritual life,
Your weary limbs are dying;
Instead of allowing the light
From your own eyes
The light that has been revealed,
You feel slavishly chained
To the remnants of your former being.
In the impulses of life you shall walk
Knowledge that has become yours.
Life is not extinguished,
It must be transformed anew.
Feel as strength what you have heard,
And as a new person
You will awaken.

HUMAN: I wish the time would come
When we too would understand each other.
For now we speak different languages,
Although our languages
Flow from only one source.
