Seventh scene, fragment

(Mary, Philia, Astrid, Luna, John, Theodora, the child)

MARY:
You who are my companions
In my work, when I
Let the essence of the world's ether
Within itself,
So that it resounds harmoniously
And penetrates human souls
With spiritual moods:
Your work shall be one
With my work.
The sign has been given,
Calling us to work.
A human being shall be born
Through our work
To a higher existence.
The brothers in the temple,
They seek counsel,
How they shall lift him from the depths
To the light-filled heights.
They expect of us,
That we pour from the heights
The purest springs of life
Into his soul.
You, my Philia, absorb
The essence of light from space,
Fill yourself with the life of sound
And its creative soul power,
So that I may trust the gifts
That you have to give,
To the living dance of the spheres.
And you, Astrid, beloved reflection
Of my spirit,
Give structure to the light,
So that it may show itself in colors,
And share the life of sound
In tones with wisdom,
That I may entrust the vastness
To the searching human mind.
And you, O strong Luna, who rest
Within your being,
Like the mark that grows
In the center of the tree,
Unite the gifts of the sisters — —
That firmness may come to man
Through your insight.

LUNA:
I want to warm the substance of the soul,
I want to harden the ether of life,
They shall condense,
They shall feel themselves
And weaving within themselves
Keep themselves creative,
So that you, beloved sister,
May see the archetype in the reflection.

MARIA:
From Philia's realm
May joy flow;
The changing powers of the nymphs,
May they open
The soul's sensitivity,
So that the awakened one
May experience
The earth's joy,
The earth's sorrow.
From Astrid's weaving
May the power of love flow.
The warm life of the sylphs,
May it enliven
The soul's sacrificial drive,
So that the consecrated one
May refresh
Those burdened with suffering,
Those who yearn for happiness.
From Luna's power
Strength shall germinate.
The power of the fire beings,
It can arouse
The soul's security,
So that the knowledgeable one
May find the gate of initiation
In the weaving of the soul,
In the life of the world.

PHILIA:
I will ask the spirits,
That the light of their being
May delight the soul's senses
And the sound of their words
May gladden the spirit's hearing,
So that the awakened one
May rise
On soul paths
To heavenly heights.

ASTRID:
I want to lead the stream of love,
Which nourishes worlds,
To the heart
Of the consecrated one,
So that he may bring
To earthly beings
The refreshment of heaven
And to human children
The drink of consecration.

LUNA:
I want to elicit
The uniqueness of worldly existence,
So that those who know
May be blessed with self-recognition
In all the heights of the worlds.
He shall pick the fruits
From moments
And transform them into seeds
For eternity.

MARIA:
United with you
I will succeed
In the act of consecration.
The cry
Of the sorely tested
Penetrates our world of light.

JOHN:
O Mary, it is you.
My suffering
Has borne rich fruit.
The pain has pierced
The veil of the senses,
And I was allowed to see
Into the foundations of life.
The Earth Father
Capesius, whom I first saw
As an old man,
In that state of mind,
Where his youthful dreams blossomed.
And the young Strader
The spirit showed me
How he would once become,
If he pursued his goal
In the manner
He had hitherto thought.
The pious man who
In our circle
Dreamed of that knowledge
Which lives only in one's own soul,
He is in reality
Only a faint shadow
Of the lofty being who
Together with others
Gives the gifts of existence.
And when the faint shadow
Walks in error,
It is only because
Selfishness seduces him,
Through a power of the soul,
Which he wants to enjoy within himself,
To kill others.
