Tenth Act, prose and verse form
HILARIUS: The words spoken at this point must appear just to the spirit in whose name they are proclaimed. And if they are not, then the evil caused by them falls back on the speaker. It will cast him into darkness as far as he has strayed from the truth with his words. With this knowledge, the one who stands before you has administered this symbol of the East. It is the will of fate that you should stand here in the future. He who consecrates you to your dignity gives you his blessing with the strength he can muster, according to the measure in which he himself has done his service.
TORQUATUS: Capesius, the place where I stand and which I must hand over to you is dangerous, for here, in this place, Lucifer's forces are at work in the temple. And whoever stands here must not remain with the superficial opinion that Lucifer is evil and must be avoided. He was not only the bringer of light at the beginning of the earth; he is also the bringer of inwardness; if his plan were ever realized, all beings would become self-contained, independent worlds, finding their origin and their goal within themselves. And if he were excluded from earthly activity, all independence, all inner life would vanish. Anyone who wants to get to know him must know that his powers cannot be dispensed with. It is not what he does that is evil; it is that he does it as an enemy of God that makes it evil. Understand that Lucifer is not evil, but that what he does can become evil and wicked.
CAPESIUS: Anyone who has stood at Lucifer's throne will never call him evil. Is fire evil because it burns the eyes, or water because one can drown in it?
TORQUATUS: This is how one must think if one wants to stand in this place. He must administer it in such a way that he values Lucifer's powers in the universe, but avoids what makes them evil.
CAPESIUS: The world spirit, who once brought light to mankind, wanted to fill the world with wisdom. Where there is light, he wanted a bearer of light. He said to mankind: enlighten yourself, know who you are. If Lucifer does not work against the gods, if he works with them, then his powers are good.
TORQUATUS: You recognize your task. You have been allowed to get to know Lucifer without perceiving him as evil because of the being you brought him from Earth. Lucifer's power must be able to flow into man at this point without leading him to evil.
TRAUTMANN: Strader, I must transfer my office to you. In this place, the power of the adversary must flow in, the darkness, the steadfastness. Thought must find its goal here.

STRADER: Enlightenment for the person who has not found it in thought.

BENEDICTUS: When Lucifer finds a person who does not want his light, then his good is not turned into evil. Then he will be an example, not a giver. —
