Hier liegt für die äußere Naturwissenschaft durchaus eine zweite Grenze, nur dass die Überzeugung du Bois-Reymonds diejenige ist, die gerade durch anthroposophische Forschung durchbrochen werden muss. Du Bois-Reymond meint, dass die Grenzen der Naturerkenntnis die Grenzen jeglicher Wissenschaftlichkeit seien. Deshalb sagt er: Wenn man hineindringen will in dieses Gebiet des Geistig-Seelischen, so muss man das durch andere Mittel als die wissenschaftlichen tun. Denn wo der Supernaturalismus beginnt, wo man, mit anderen Worten, in das Gebiet des Geistig-Seelischen eindringt, da hört Wissenschaft auf.
