He begins to see in all things the spirit, of which physical eyes can know nothing. And therewith he has taken the first step toward the gradual solution, through personal vision, of the secret of birth and death. For the outer senses a being comes into existence through birth, and passes away through death. This, however, is only because these senses cannot perceive the concealed spirit of the being. For the spirit, birth and death are merely a transformation, just as the unfolding of the flower from the bud is a transformation enacted before our physical eyes. But if we desire to learn this through personal vision we must first awaken the requisite spiritual sense in the way here indicated.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Control of Thoughts and Feelings","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":157,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/10/c02_2-3/p008","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"no_original_to_compare","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["HR1960","MAC1909","RSPC1947"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"en","edition":"RSPC1947","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/10/c02_2-3/p008"}],"paired_german":{"status":"no_german_served","note":"No German witness of this unit is served.","pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":null,"band":"no_original","note":null,"word_count":4354,"original_word_count":null,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"status":"unknown","warning":"No translator is recorded for this edition.
