Whereas the former tendency led more and more towards hardening, towards fixing a culminating point for the astral system in evolution, the astral body in man keeps something back, something that has a tendency to soften again. This makes it possible for evolution to advance. If this tendency had been absent, if everything had streamed into the bony system, there would be no progress, no culture. Animal species do not progress; the evolution of the tiger species, the lion species, has reached its culmination and goes no further. Man, however, with the part of the astral body which has been kept separate, is able to take what has hardened back again and new organs, soft and pliable organs, can be formed. This is extraordinarily significant! In the animal there is no such tendency.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Myths and Symbols","site_heading":null,"date":"1907-10-21","location":null,"word_count":140,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/101/1907-10-21/p026","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:length","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Dorothy S. Sehr merkwürdig. Diese Tendenz ist beim Tiere nicht vorhanden.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":161,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/101/1907-10-21/p025"}],"english":["GA 101/1907-10-21/p026"],"method":"length","confidence":"medium","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":161,"en_words":140,"ratio":0.87,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":0.83,"band":"watch","note":"This witness is somewhat shorter than the original.
