But he does not go from one embodiment to another in vain. Why does man always descend from spiritual heights to earth again and again? Why is not one incarnation on earth sufficient? The reason for this is that the earth itself changes over long periods of time, in relation to everything that is physical on it, and in relation to everything that is spiritual and soul-like on it. Compare the outward appearance of the earth, what has grown here, and what was here already 2000 to 3000 years ago. Compare the soil as it looked around Pforzheim then with how it looks today. Even ordinary natural science can provide information about what the soil looked like here 2000 years ago. But also compare what a person learned in his childhood and youth then with what he learns today, and you will have to say to yourself: The physical and spiritual life on earth is changing. The earth was quite different 2000 to 3000 years ago and has always been and will always be changing. The earth is constantly changing. And every time we descend to the earth, we encounter new conditions, we can learn new things, experience new things and live new things, combine them with our being and carry new experiences up into the spiritual world. Therefore, because we are to absorb the experiences of the earth in successive periods, we are born in successive lives on earth. We tune in to what external life can give us in the course of successive periods and what we are to learn within this life on earth. These must be in harmony.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"I.
