It might be thought that the best kind of Theosophist is one who works at his development for a time and then engages in some external, beneficent activity. But it may be that our position in external life does not enable us to put into application in the world what we elaborate in the soul. There may be no greater fallacy than to imagine that a man can be a good Theosophist only if he actually turns to account in the world what he has learnt inwardly. For decades we may not be in a position to put into application any of the Spiritual Science impulses that are now within us. Then one day we may happen to be meeting someone at a railway station and are able to say something of significance which otherwise we should have had no opportunity of saying. This single action may be more significant in life than one of much wider scope. We must realise clearly what we are capable of doing and that through a twist of karma, the opportunity for turning it to account will be given us at the right moment.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The New Spiritual Age and the Return of the Christ","site_heading":null,"date":"1910-02-20","location":null,"word_count":194,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/118/1910-02-20/p004","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:length","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"not_established","translator":null,"identified_edition":"Singles","book_title":"The New Spiritual Age and the Return of the Christ","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA118/English/Singles/19100220p01.html","evidence":null,"reason":"source_says_translator_unknown","note":"The source page itself says the translator is unknown.
