He finds no satisfaction in the question, “Does it agree with reality?” For he tells himself, “Is a matter of truth completely explained when you can say that it accords with the external world?” Things can really be true, and true and true again, as well as correct, and correct and ever correct, and still have as little relationship to reality as the truth of the little boy sent to buy rolls from the village baker. He figured out correctly that he would get five rolls for his ten kreuzers, but his figuring did not accord with reality; he practiced the same kind of thinking as the pedant who philosophizes about reality. You see, in that village, if you bought five rolls, you got an extra one thrown in—nothing to do with philosophy or logic, just plain reality.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Three Lectures on the Mystery Dramas","date":"1911-12-19","location":null,"word_count":149,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/127/1911-12-19/p027","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/127/1911-12-19/p027"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/127/1911-12-19/p027","paragraph_aligned":true}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"1911-12-19","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 127/1911-12-19/p019","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/127/1911-12-19/p019"}],"bead_confidence":"medium","length_check":{"de_words":265,"en_words":268,"ratio":1.01,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative and this passage's lecture alignment is imperfect.
