It is only through knowledge of human nature itself that humanity will learn to see what is latent in those profound records. It will then be said: If there is to be found in the Gospels that which forms an integral part of human nature, it must have come from the people who wrote these documents on earth, Therefore what genuine reflection brings home to us about our own lives—the more so the older we grow—must hold especially good with regard to those writers. We ourselves have done many things which we only understand years afterwards, and in the writers of the Gospels may be seen people who wrote out of the higher self which works in man during childhood, so that the Gospels are writings emanating from the wisdom which molds human nature. Man is a manifestation of spirit through his body, and the Gospels are such a manifestation in writing.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Lecture I","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":195,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l01/p035?edition=ASGB1921","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:length","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["AP1992","ASGB1921"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"en","edition":"AP1992","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l01/p035","paragraph_aligned":true},{"lang":"en","edition":"ASGB1921","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":false,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l01/p035?edition=ASGB1921","paragraph_aligned":true}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"l01","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 15/l01/p029","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/15/l01/p029"}],"bead_confidence":"medium","pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false,"length_check":{"de_words":218,"en_words":195,"ratio":0.89,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative, so the same number need not name the same paragraph in the German. Man hat so manches gemacht, was man erst viele Jahre hinterher versteht.
