Therefore, people who have developed the ability to distinguish between the beings and events of the higher worlds are called “ *initiates*.” Initiation is what enables us to distinguish between various types of beings. People can be clairvoyant and see into the higher worlds without also being initiates. In ancient times, being able to distinguish between these beings was not especially important, for once the ancient mystery schools had brought their students to the point of clairvoyance, there was no great danger of making mistakes. Now, however, the danger of falling into error is very great. Therefore, in all esoteric schooling the development of clairvoyance must always be accompanied by initiation. As people become clairvoyant, they must also become able to distinguish between the particular types of supersensible beings and occurrences they perceive.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Lecture Two","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":174,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l02/p048","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["AP1992","ASGB1921"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"en","edition":"AP1992","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l02/p048"}],"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.05,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":7305,"original_word_count":6935,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"status":"unknown","warning":"No translator is recorded for this edition.
