When the Gautama Buddha was a little child, the Indian sage Asita came weeping into the royal palace of his father, Suddhodana. He wept because, as a seer, he knew that this King's son would become the Buddha, and because as an old man, he felt that he would no longer be living to see that event take place. Now this sage was born again in the time of Jesus of Nazareth. It is he who is brought before us in the Gospel of St. Luke as the priest of the temple who saw the revelation of the Buddha in the Child Jesus descended from Nathan. And seeing this he was able to say: “Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace for I have seen my Master,” What he had not been able to see previously in India, he saw through the astral body of the Boy Jesus, Who comes before us in St. Luke's Gospel: the Bodhisattva become Buddha.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Lecture III","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":195,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l03/p017?edition=ASGB1921","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:length","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["AP1992","ASGB1921"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/15/l03/p017"},{"lang":"en","edition":"AP1992","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l03/p017","paragraph_aligned":true},{"lang":"en","edition":"ASGB1921","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":false,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/15/l03/p017?edition=ASGB1921","paragraph_aligned":true}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"l03","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 15/l03/p021","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/15/l03/p021"},{"locus":"GA 15/l03/p022","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/15/l03/p022"}],"bead_confidence":"high","pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false,"length_check":{"de_words":171,"en_words":195,"ratio":1.14,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative, so the same number need not name the same paragraph in the German.
