They say science can tell us about the world outside us, the only one we can know of with certainty. However, concerning the spiritual world, we must have faith. This attitude appears to contradict spiritual science, which strives to give us real knowledge of and insight into the spiritual world. In fact, it has to enter souls in our time in just this form, as insight and knowledge. In earlier incarnations our souls were in a completely different condition than now. They were more primitive, but in those times there were great individuals and many people connected with them. Those individuals conveyed ideas of the spiritual world, which we can still find in certain tribes and peoples and trace to individuals such as Hermes, Zarathustra, Moses, Buddha, and Krishna.[^3] Spiritual ideas had to be poured into people's souls.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Presence of the Dead on the Spiritual Path","date":"1914-04-17","location":null,"word_count":153,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/154/1914-04-17/p005","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"identified_edition":"AP1990","translator":"Christian von Arnim and edited by Joachim Reuter","publisher":"Anthroposophic Press","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA154/English/AP1990/PreDea_index.html"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/154/1914-04-17/p005"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/154/1914-04-17/p005","paragraph_aligned":true}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"1914-04-17","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 154/1914-04-17/p004","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/154/1914-04-17/p004"},{"locus":"GA 154/1914-04-17/p005","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/154/1914-04-17/p005"}],"bead_confidence":"medium","length_check":{"de_words":227,"en_words":207,"ratio":0.91,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative and this passage's lecture alignment is imperfect.
