And the world they enter after death will remain dark, because they do not radiate any light themselves. The rays of the sun strike a surface and that is how we see things. But in the spiritual world we are the source of light; we illuminate the surroundings we are supposed to see. Souls feeling the need to pursue spiritual science may not be aware of these circumstances, but they live in the depths of the soul. Just as in the physical world sunlight comes from the outside, so we must make ourselves sunlike in the spiritual world. We have to light in ourselves the spiritual fuel, the inner flame, to illuminate the realm of the spirit.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Presence of the Dead on the Spiritual Path","date":"1914-04-17","location":null,"word_count":148,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/154/1914-04-17/p022","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"identified_edition":"AP1990","translator":"Christian von Arnim and edited by Joachim Reuter","publisher":"Anthroposophic Press","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA154/English/AP1990/PreDea_index.html"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/154/1914-04-17/p022","paragraph_aligned":true}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"1914-04-17","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 154/1914-04-17/p014","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/154/1914-04-17/p014"}],"bead_confidence":"medium","length_check":{"de_words":283,"en_words":361,"ratio":1.28,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative and this passage's lecture alignment is imperfect.
