Between birth and death, we live here in the physical world. We know this physical world through our sensory perceptions. It is a triviality, hardly worth mentioning: if we did not have our sense organs, we would know nothing of our connection with the physical world. But everything that our sense organs convey to us about our connection with the physical world naturally separates from us when we pass through the gate of death, so that we can say that It is our task between birth and death to become acquainted with the physical world. We are incorporated into this physical body in order to become acquainted with the physical world through it.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Connection Between Humans and the Spiritual World","site_heading":null,"date":"1916-12-03","location":null,"word_count":161,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/168/1916-12-03/p004","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"The Connection Between the Living and the Dead","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA168/English/SOL2024/19161203p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
