This is conscious connection with the dead. But what becomes conscious in this way is actually always present unconsciously if there was a relationship during life between the one who remained here in the physical world and the one who ascended into the spiritual world. Let us assume that we have lost a beloved person through death. Whether we know it or not — those who have developed imaginative perception can know it — the dead person acts as if they were sending their will into the etheric body they have left behind, as if into a mirror, and the mirror in turn sends the rays back to us; the dead person acts back on the living through the elemental and etheric bodies. This is the influence that is, in a sense, indirect.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Connection Between Humans and the Spiritual World","site_heading":null,"date":"1916-12-03","location":null,"word_count":175,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/168/1916-12-03/p012","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"The Connection Between the Living and the Dead","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA168/English/SOL2024/19161203p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
