Isn't it true that, because we initially view things from the physical world, we rightly say: Man goes through repeated earthly lives. That is correct. But why does he go through repeated earthly lives? By living here between birth and death, he lives through a certain period of time. Then he enters the spiritual world through the gate of death, makes a circuit, but returns to the same period of time in that circuit. And every time we live through a life, we are actually in the same place in the world. That is very interesting! In the spiritual realm, it is not time that reigns, but duration. We return to the same place. We actually repeat life in the same circumstances, with what we have gone through in the meantime, in the same place in the world. We always return to the starting point. We perform real circles. You will say: that is difficult to imagine. It is also difficult to imagine, and among the various things that are easier to imagine, which I have also presented today, I would like you to make such a thing the subject of your meditation in your soul life. One must sometimes meditate long, long on such things if one wants to understand them in their full significance.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Connection Between Humans and the Spiritual World","site_heading":null,"date":"1916-12-03","location":null,"word_count":259,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/168/1916-12-03/p032","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"The Connection Between the Living and the Dead","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA168/English/SOL2024/19161203p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
