What do these secret societies want? Among others—we cannot go into everything—there is one particular thing they want: They want to materialize materialism even further; they want to create even more materialism in the world than would come about as part of the natural evolution of mankind in the fifth post-Atlantean period. They want even more materialism. This is only one aspect of what they are aiming for, but it is the aspect we want at least to touch on here. With this aspect in mind such societies are founded and with this aspect in mind people are persuaded to join them, people who are approached during their lives because they are deemed suitable.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Lecture XXI","site_heading":"Ceremonial Magic, Dead Souls, and Ahrimanic Immortality","site_heading_note":"A heading the site wrote for this unit from a summary of it; not in the edition, and not the words of Rudolf Steiner or of the translator. Also noch mehr Materialismus wollen sie haben. Wie gesagt, das ist nur einer der Gesichtspunkte, die sie anstreben; aber diesen Gesichtspunkt wollen wir wenigstens streifen.
