Record: listeners' notes. Written from listeners' notes, summaries, or memory rather than a shorthand transcript. The wording is the note-taker's as much as Steiner's: weigh a single striking phrase here far more cautiously than the same phrase in a stenographic volume, and do not rest an argument on one word. Evidence: «Nach zum Teil bruchstückhaften Mitschriften» (From transcripts that are in part fragmentary). The publisher's description of the volume, as mirrored on AnthroWiki (GA 246), which also speaks of "fragmentarischen Hörernotizen und Vortragszusammenfassungen". The translation is the maintainer's, not a published one.

This is the basis of something very important. The first ancient initiates tuned their musical instruments accordingly. The bass note of the lyre was the note of the earth, the D-string of water, the F-string of fire, the A-string of air. This is how the instruments are constructed from the mysteries of the cosmos; in them sounds what the initiates heard. This indicates that much in our world is symbolic. - Richard Wagner, with his brilliant insight, once said: “In the sound of the instruments together you can hear something of the music of higher worlds.”
