There are those who believe that with the limits of knowledge derived from sense perception the limits of all insight are given. Yet if they would carefully observe *how* they become conscious of these limits, they would find in the very consciousness of the limits the faculties to transcend them. The fish swims up to the limits of the water; it must return because it lacks the physical organs to live outside this element. Man reaches the limits of knowledge attainable by sense perception; but he can recognise that on the way to this point powers of soul have arisen in him—powers whereby the soul can live in an element that goes beyond the horizon of the senses.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Anthroposophical Leading Thoughts","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":119,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/26/a01/p014","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"no_original_to_compare","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["APC1956","RSP1973"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"en","edition":"RSP1973","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/26/a01/p014"},{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"locus":"GA 26/l30/p014","anchor_mapped":true,"anchor_method":"positional","anchor_confidence":"medium","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/26/l30/p014"}],"other_renderings":{"loci":[{"locus":"GA 260a/1924-02-17_02","ga":"260a","lecture":"1924-02-17_02","kind":"excerpt","relation":"an excerpt or summary of the same lecture, or the lecture this unit excerpts"}],"note":"The same lecture is also served at the loci listed, each with how it relates to this one.
