One should only consider colors and symbols when they have appeared to us some time before, so that it is more likely that our personal interest in them has waned and we may be able to find their true meaning. We must familiarize ourselves with the awareness that we are completely permeated by selfishness and that we carry this into the spiritual world. We must have the courage and strength to imbue ourselves with the certainty that we can do nothing, absolutely nothing, on the physical plane without egoism having a say. We should resolve to promise ourselves that we will always keep in mind that everything we do stems from selfish motives. This might discourage us, but if we enforce it for ourselves, we will notice that we are making certain progress. For example, fear and terror, such as when we suddenly hear a loud noise, will fall away from us.
