Record: listeners' notes. Written from listeners' notes, summaries, or memory rather than a shorthand transcript. The wording is the note-taker's as much as Steiner's: weigh a single striking phrase here far more cautiously than the same phrase in a stenographic volume, and do not rest an argument on one word. Evidence: «Gedächtnisaufzeichnungen von Teilnehmern» (Participants' records written from memory). Rudolf Steiner Verlag Gesamtverzeichnis 2022, volume subtitle. The translation is the maintainer's, not a published one.

The word from the East must be received by us in the right way. We must above all take care to distinguish truth from deception in inspiration, that everything which appears to be of the character of the larynx-spoken, i.e., as a vowel, in what we hear from the spiritual world, does not in truth originate from there. Rather, there must be no sound character. Therefore, the “word” from the spiritual world does not flow like human speech. Everything vowel-like must disappear. As soon as a sound character is present, one must say to oneself: This is a temptation to recognize voices other than those from the spiritual world and to follow them! But the spirit never speaks to me in a sound character.
