Esoteric Lesson
The student should be as suspicious as possible of his occult experiences—especially those that bear the tone characteristic. Even if he wanted to believe that he was experiencing the sound of the inexpressible name of God, which would sound to him when he had found the direction toward the spiritual East—if he wanted to believe that this was spiritual truth when he heard such a sound, like something still reminiscent of a physical sound, he would be deceiving himself. For this “spiritual” sound that he hears is like the last thing from the physical plane and at the same time like the first thing from the higher planes—something that comes toward him, so to speak, from the other side to connect him with the higher worlds. Having a sound character still means something from the physical plane. Vowels only sound here, not there! True spiritual hearing is something completely different, something that has no sound character in itself. It does not come from a larynx incarnated in flesh.
