Therefore, if one has a poetic work or a musical work, one can express the poetic through this visible language of eurythmy, just as one can sing the musical through these movements, which represent a sequence of tones. One can sing visibly. It is not a matter of viewing the individual gestures in direct connection with the poetic sound or musical tone, but just as one sees the musical itself in the sequence of tones and in the harmony, so one must artistically perceive this harmony in the movements in our eurythmy. This must be taken into account, and one really cannot speak of eurythmic representations in such a way that one says it is a matter of first understanding the individual gesture. That would be exactly the same as wanting to examine the individual sound in something that appears as poetry in declamation and recitation.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Address on Eurythmy","site_heading":null,"date":"1922-05-07","location":null,"word_count":173,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/277c/1922-05-07/p009","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2025","book_title":"The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1920–1922","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA277c/English/SOL2025/19220507e01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
