For the dramatic, however, it becomes apparent that where drama transitions from the representation of purely external, naturalistic events — in the broadest sense, of course — to the experience of something supersensible through the human soul, that higher sublimation made possible by eurythmy is particularly appropriate. We already made an attempt at this during the last performance here, where a fragment from Goethe's “Faust” — from the second part of Goethe's Faust, the Sorge scene — we attempted to illustrate how, on the one hand, in the figure of Faust, who stands naturalistically with both feet, I might say, on the ground, there is something naturalistic that can be portrayed in ordinary mimic art, but how the figures that can only be conceived spiritually — Sorge, distress, want, guilt—how these are declaimed from outside the stage and what they have to represent on stage is represented through the visible language of eurythmy.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Eurythmy Performance","site_heading":null,"date":"1922-11-05","location":null,"word_count":185,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/277c/1922-11-05/p018","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2025","book_title":"The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1920–1922","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA277c/English/SOL2025/19221105e01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
