Then, dear audience, in the course of this inner development, he comes to attain true self-knowledge. This true self-knowledge gives him a pictorial view of his own being. His double appears before him. I do not mean anything symbolic or allegorical by this. Both abstract symbolism and straw allegory are inartistic. What is at stake here is not symbolism or allegory, but a real soul experience that can occur before the soul if it only creates the inner possibilities for it to do so, [if it] appears before the soul like the outer sensory world. This is how Johannes Thomasius experiences his own being, his present being, as his doppelganger.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Eurythmy Performance","site_heading":null,"date":"1922-11-05","location":null,"word_count":154,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/277c/1922-11-05/p020","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2025","book_title":"The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1920–1922","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA277c/English/SOL2025/19221105e01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
