That is why it is said that they must now cross the threshold, must stand before the guardian of the threshold. The guardian appears in the form of a distant figure. He shows how one must become strong and powerful within oneself in order to cross the threshold and experience something in reality like this doppelganger, like this spirit of Johannes' youth. And yet another figure appears. This is the figure I call Ahriman. Everything that holds people down, everything that is intellectually materialistic, that makes them philistine, that condemns them to thoughts instead of a fully human grasp of reality, this figure appears to Thomasius as a supersensible experience. Finally, Benedictus and Mary appear, whom he met earlier and who now reappear to him, as it were, in a mirror image in the spiritual world.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Eurythmy Performance","site_heading":null,"date":"1922-11-05","location":null,"word_count":152,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/277c/1922-11-05/p022","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2025","book_title":"The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1920–1922","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA277c/English/SOL2025/19221105e01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
