So that in the treatment of language, in the way people speak, speech, which otherwise tends to be neutral and abstract, is lived through in the mind and feelings and is permeated by the will. And to what extent the emotional lives in the sound, the volitional surges, to what extent this can take place, the poet must succeed in expressing in his treatment of language. Otherwise, we are not dealing with true poetic art. And ninety-nine percent of all that is written in verse—to put it conservatively—is not poetry, not artistic poetry, but is born of abstractly felt language, is actually more or less a matter of imagination, that is, fundamentally inartistic.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Eurythmy Performance","site_heading":null,"date":"1923-07-29","location":null,"word_count":138,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/277d/1923-07-29/p009","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2025","book_title":"The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1923–1925","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA277d/English/SOL2025/19230729e01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
