The human etheric body is always present. Every man bears it within himself. What do you do therefore when you speak, when you say the alphabet aloud? You sink into the form of your own etheric body. What happens then, when we utter a single word, which of course does not consist of all the sounds? Let us picture to ourselves the human being as he stands before us. He consists of physical body, etheric body, astral body and ego. He speaks some word. He sinks his consciousness into his etheric body. He forms some part of the etheric body in the air as an image, in much the same way as you, standing before a physical body, might for instance copy the form of a hand, so that the form of the hand were made visible in the air. Now the etheric body does not consist of the same forms as those which make up the physical body, but in this case it is the forms of the etheric body which are impressed into the air. When we learn to understand this rightly, my dear friends, we gain an insight into the most wonderful metamorphosis of the human form, an insight into the evolution of man. For what is this etheric body? It is the vehicle of the forces of growth; it contains within it all those forces bound up with the processes of nourishment, and also those forces connected with the power of memory. All this is imparted to the airy formations when we speak.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"I. Was tun Sie also, indem Sie sprechen, das Alphabet aussprechen? Der ätherische Mensch ist das Wort, das das ganze Alphabet umfaßt.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":339,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/279/1924-06-24/p020"}],"english":["GA 279/1924-06-24/p018","GA 279/1924-06-24/p019"],"method":"length","confidence":"medium","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":339,"en_words":379,"ratio":1.12,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"verified","verified":true,"evidence":["length","reader"],"reader_german":["GA 279/1924-06-24/p020"],"reader_part":true},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.12,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":6442,"original_word_count":5736,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Vera Compton-Burnett and Judith Compton-Burnett","identified_edition":"APC1956","book_title":"Eurythmy as Visible Speech","publisher":"Anthroposophical Publishing Co.","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA279/English/APC1956/19240624p02.html","evidence":"lecture_list_row","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
