Man experiences these secrets in the interim between death and a new birth (in the “spirit realm” or what is called “Devachan” in the common theosophical literature). However, it should be noted that all these seals only represent the experiences of the astral world. But other worlds than the astral world itself can be observed in it. Our physical world can be observed in its astral-plane counterparts. And the spiritual world can be seen in its after-images on this plane. Thus, the third seal represents the astral after-images of the “spirit world”. The angels blowing trumpets represent the spiritual primal beings of the world phenomena; the sounds of the trumpets themselves represent the forces that flow from these primal beings into the world and through which the beings and things are built and sustained in their becoming and working. The “apocalyptic riders” represent the main points of development through which an individual human being passes in the course of many embodiments, and which are represented on the astral plane by the riders on their horses: a horse shining white, expressing a very early stage of soul development; a horse of fiery color, pointing to the warlike ; a black horse, corresponding to that stage of the soul where only the outer physical perception of the soul is developed; and a green shimmering horse, the image of the mature soul, which has mastery over the body (hence the green color, which results as an expression of the life force working from the inside out).","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Images of Occult Seals and Columns","site_heading":null,"date":"1907-10-21","location":null,"word_count":265,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/284/1907-10-21/p010","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"Images of Occult Seals and Columns","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA284/English/SOL2024/19071021c01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page. The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
