This also means rejecting the “categorical imperative,” an external power whose commandments we have to accept as moral laws, comparable to a voice from the Beyond that tells us what to do or leave undone. Our moral ideals are our own free creations. We have to fulfill only what we ourselves lay down as our standard of conduct. Thus the insight that truth is the outcome of a free deed also establishes a philosophy of morality, the foundation of which is the completely *free personality*.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Preface","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":125,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/3/pref/p006","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["MP1993","RSPI1963","SOL2024"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"en","edition":"RSPI1963","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/3/pref/p006","paragraph_aligned":true},{"lang":"en","edition":"MP1993","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":false,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/3/pref/p006?edition=MP1993","paragraph_aligned":true},{"lang":"en","edition":"SOL2024","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":false,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/3/pref/p006?edition=SOL2024","paragraph_aligned":true},{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"locus":"GA 3/preface/p006","anchor_mapped":true,"anchor_method":"vocab","anchor_confidence":"high","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/3/preface/p006"}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"preface","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 3/preface/p006","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/3/preface/p006"}],"bead_confidence":"high","length_check":{"de_words":114,"en_words":125,"ratio":1.1,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative, so the same number need not name the same paragraph in the German.
