On numerous occasions, Dr. X. told the little children in first grade that he did not understand any German. You could make a connection with that and weave your readings into it. Don’t simply talk to the children, but allow them to speak as much as possible. It was apparent this morning that the children cannot yet do that; you need to be sure to allow the children to speak. They need to have an opportunity to tell about what they have read. This is particularly true in the upper grades where the foreign languages are still behind. The lower classes are much better in languages and it is easier there. The problems in language lie in the upper grades.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Thirty-Fourth Meeting","site_heading":null,"date":"1922-06-21","location":null,"word_count":135,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/300b/1922-06-21/p031","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:length","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Ruth Pusch and Gertrude Teutsch","identified_edition":"AP1998","book_title":"Faculty Meetings with Rudolf Steiner I","publisher":"Anthroposophic Press","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA300b/English/AP1998/19220621d01.html","evidence":"lecture_list_row","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
