The only problem then is that when it becomes known that a child is lacking in that area, then people think that the child has to be bathed. If we had showers, we would have to avoid that kind of negative thought, but that is, of course, often difficult to do. If we had a boarding school, we could do all sorts of such valuable things. I have, however, found no way of avoiding such negative thoughts. We should see to it, however, that the children come to school properly dressed and washed. There would be no negative opinions if we required children to come to school clean and well-kept. In such cases, there is sometimes something pathological present. There are people who cannot avoid looking dirty and smelling bad even when they are washed. I would agree to having showers, but we would have to find some way to connect it with a moral perspective.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Forty-Eighth Meeting","site_heading":null,"date":"1923-03-01","location":null,"word_count":162,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/300b/1923-03-01/p042","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Ruth Pusch and Gertrude Teutsch","identified_edition":"AP1998","book_title":"Faculty Meetings with Rudolf Steiner II","publisher":"Anthroposophic Press","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA300b/English/AP1998/19230301d01.html","evidence":"lecture_list_row","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
