They show how people have too strong a tendency to form judgments not according to the facts, but according to their sympathies and antipathies, according to what they feel. This is because there are many things in human nature that are not developed, but actually demand to be developed as human forces. We will, however, always find our way if we take the rhythmic needs within the whole human being into account. We do that when we do not simply teach addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. When teaching addition, we should not simply expect answers to the question of what is the sum of so and so much. Instead we should expect answers to the question of how a sum can be separated in various ways. In contrast, the question with regard to subtraction is, from what number do we need to remove five in order to have the result be eight? In general, we need to pose all these kinds of questions in the opposite way to which they are posed in synthetic thinking when interacting with external world.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"X. Da könnte man sagen: die Menschen sind ja so eigentümlich kurz geschürzt in ihrem Urteil.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":303,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/301/1920-05-05/p013"}],"english":["GA 301/1920-05-05/p024","GA 301/1920-05-05/p025"],"method":"length","confidence":"medium","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":303,"en_words":316,"ratio":1.04,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":0.91,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":5311,"original_word_count":5848,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Ruth Pusch and Gertrude Teutsch","identified_edition":"AP2001","book_title":"The Renewal of Education","publisher":"Anthroposophic Press","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA301/English/AP2001/19200505d01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
