Do we take what Newton said—that space is a sensorium of God—seriously when we think in the accepted scientific sense today? People today like to regard as great thinkers those men who have said something or other that they approve. But if the great men also said something that they do not approve, they feel very superior and think: Unfortunately, on this point he wasn’t as enlightened as I am. Thus many people consider Lessing[^10] a man of great genius but make an exception for what he did toward the end of his life, when he became convinced that we go through repeated earth lives.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Lecture IV","site_heading":"Mathematics Severed from Human Experience: The Birth of Modern Science","site_heading_note":"A heading the site wrote for this unit from a summary of it; not in the edition, and not the words of Rudolf Steiner or of the translator.
