You must come to the conclusion that you sense a difference, that there is a difference. You must also be able to feel something else; you must be able to feel you possess two eyes with two lines of vision which meet and cross. (He draws on the blackboard, right.) These two lines of sight which cross at what we are looking at—it is quite like when I hug myself with my two arms encircling myself. Just think about the difference between man and animal. An animal has, to a much reduced degree, the possibility to experience what we for instance experience when our one hand touches the other. Just look at the position of particular animal eyes; you can clearly distinguish how strong the egoism of an animal is, according to its eye positions. Animals which have eye positions with eye axes which can't cross are unable to develop egoism, because the experience, the sense of having an I, depends on a person being able to \"grasp\" his I, and that the right gaze of the eye can meet the left gaze by crossing. On this the sense of the I is dependant.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"XV. Darauf beruht gerade das Erleben des Ich.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":240,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/343/ordination_and_transubstantiation/p017"}],"english":["GA 343/ordination_and_transubstantiation/p022"],"method":"length","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":240,"en_words":251,"ratio":1.05,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":0.98,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":7217,"original_word_count":7338,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Hanna von Maltitz","identified_edition":"SOL2018","book_title":"The Foundation Course","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA343/English/SOL2018/Lecture_15_4616b.html","evidence":"lecture_list_row","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
