You see, that is it, that anthroposophy is already a great human task and has a great social significance. Because all understanding will indeed go away. And because the intellect only wants to remain within, because human wisdom serves up what comes from the corpse, that is actually how it came about – not from something else – that humanity lives in such darkness and has no idea what to do. For example, in order to get out of the eternal congress image and so on, in order to get to something again, you have to really wake people up. But people hate to wake up. Because, when people sit down at meeting tables, it is not just about sitting down together, but about talking about something sensible; whereas people today are such that they do not even admit that they first have to wake up, have to make something of their minds flexible, so that they can also get a feeling for the social question again. Therefore, everything else is basically just a sticking plaster. But what is necessary is that people really come to an understanding of their inner being already on this earth, that they are prepared for what they have to do in the spiritual world. Und dadurch, daß der Verstand nur drinnen bleiben will, daß man als Menschenweisheit das auftischt, was von der Leiche kommt, dadurch ist es eigentlich gekommen - nicht von etwas anderem -, daß die Menschheit in einer solchen Finsternis lebt und gar nicht weiß, was sie machen soll. Man muß zum Beispiel, um hinauszukommen über das ewige Kongressebilden und so weiter, um wiederum zu etwas zu kommen, schon den Menschen richtig aufwecken. Aber aufwachen, das hassen die Leute. Denn, nicht wahr, wenn man sich an Versammlungstischen zusammensetzt, kommt es nicht bloß darauf an, daß man sich zusammensetzt, sondern daß man etwas Vernünftiges redet; währenddem die Menschen heute so sind, daß sie eben nicht zugeben, daß sie erst sich zum Aufwachen finden müssen, etwas ihren Verstand beweglich machen müssen, damit sie auch wiederum eine Empfindung bekommen können für die soziale Frage. Deshalb ist alles übrige im Grunde genommen nur ein Kleistern. Dasjenige aber, was notwendig ist, das ist, daß wirklich die Menschen zu einer Erkenntnis ihres innerlichen Wesens schon auf dieser Erde kommen, daß sie vorbereitet sind für das, was sie in der geistigen Welt zu tun haben.
