The more man fills himself with thoughts about the world, the more the I-experience recedes. But if the 'I' is to be strongly experienced, then the thoughts about the world must come out of the soul. In these thoughts, however, man experiences himself as in his 'inner day'; in the 'I' he experiences himself at first as in the 'inner night'. But the inner day does not solve the riddle of the night for him. Another light must shine in the inner night. The “I” cannot satisfy its longing for light from the sunshine of the outside world. But it longs for sunshine. It lives in the longing for sunshine, intuitively. As self, the “I” longs for fulfillment from selflessness. — It is always on the way to bringing forth the stream of selflessness from the source of selfishness.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Psychological Aphorisms","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":150,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/36/18_psychological_aphorisms/p002","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:structural_identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":null,"publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Articles/GA036/English/SOL2024/18_Psychological_Aphorisms.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
