The Western man speaks of the world of ideas as an appearance where there lives in shadowy form what he experiences as Nature in utter reality through his senses. What was the Maja of the senses to the Eastern man is self-sufficing reality to the Western man. What is the ideology constructed by the mind to the Western man was self-creating reality to the Eastern man. If the Eastern man finds today in his reality of spirit the power to give the strength of existence to Maja, and if the Western man discovers life in his reality of Nature, so that he shall see the Spirit at work in his ideology, then will understanding come about between East and West.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"West-East Aphorisms","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":150,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/36/weaphr/p006","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"no_original_to_compare","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"not_established","translator":null,"identified_edition":"Singles","book_title":null,"publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Articles/GA036/English/Singles/WEAphr.html","evidence":null,"reason":"source_says_translator_unknown","note":"The source page itself says the translator is unknown.
