It is only when they enslave my spirit, drive my motives out of my head and want to put theirs in the place of mine, that they intentionally aim at making me unfree. This is why the Church is not only against the mere *doing*, but more particularly against *impure thoughts*, that is, against the impulses of my action. The Church makes me unfree if it considers impure all impulses it has not itself indicated.
